How to play PickM8

View tournaments

PickM8 is fantasy golf, free to play. You choose eight golfers before a tournament and their finishing positions determine your score.

Taking part

If someone has invited you, follow their joining link to reach your group. You can also choose a tournament from the homepage and enter Global for free.

Open Add your picks to begin. The golfers are divided into four pick groups, with two selections from each. You'll be guided through choosing your eight and signing in to save them.

Before you enter, you can check your picks and read the Local Rules on your scorecard.

Rob S's Global scorecard, 13th, showing eight picks with their finishing places, two missed cuts and a total score of 371.
Your scorecard keeps your eight picks and their tournament positions together.

Reading the hole column

The hole column shows how many holes a golfer has completed in the current round. A star (*) means they started on a hole other than the 1st, usually the 10th. For example, 12* means they've completed 12 holes. F means they've finished the round.

When a golfer drops out

Golfers who are no longer playing move to the Out half of your scorecard, and the red column says why.

DNS
Did not start. The golfer withdrew before the first tee or was not in the field. PickM8 replaced them, and they score nothing.
CUT
Missed the cut. Scores the cut place, shown in brackets.
WD
Withdrew during the tournament. Scores the cut place, shown in brackets.
DQ
Disqualified. Scores the cut place, shown in brackets.

The golfer who replaced a DNS has the same number on your card, with ↳ before their name and (SUB) after it. Until the first tee it says (ALT), and you can still change that pick.

How scoring works

We add your eight golfers' tournament positions together. The lowest total wins. During play, the standings update as the golfers move up or down.

Local Rules explains how ties and withdrawals affect your score, along with entry deadlines and payment conditions.

Local Rules
One entry
You get one entry per event, with the same eight picks on every board. Joining another group later does not mean picking again.
Selections
Pick eight golfers from groups A, B, C and D, exactly two from each.
Scoring
You win if your eight golfers have the lowest total finishing positions. Ties go to the best single golfer, then the next best through all eight; if all eight positions match, you share the place.
Your board
Your board ranks only the people on it. First in your group means first among your group, whatever your global position.
Deadline
Entries close at the event’s deadline, but you can change your picks until play starts. After that, PickM8 can work with your organiser to change them after a withdrawal.
Withdrawals
When the field is confirmed, and for withdrawals before the first tee, picks still playing stay wherever there is room in their new groups. You choose whether open places are filled by the highest-ranked available golfer, the golfer whose recent form is closest to your original pick, or left for you to fill before the first tee. Any manual place still open at the first tee is filled with the closest match on form. If a golfer you picked withdraws once the tournament is under way, they get the same finishing position as everyone who misses the cut.
Entry fee
Each group agrees its own fee, set by your organiser and paid directly to them. PickM8 never handles the money.
Paying up
On a board with a fee, you are hidden from the start of play on day two unless marked as paid. Your entry is not removed.

Your group and Global

Entering a group also puts your picks in Global. Each board ranks the people playing on it, so you might be third among your M8s and twentieth in Global.

You use the same eight picks on every board you enter for that tournament.

Playing for money

Global is free to enter. If your group charges an entry fee, you'll see it during entry and choose whether to take part.

Pay your organiser directly. They handle the entry fees and prizes.

Starting a group

You can create a group for your friends, family, club or workplace using a tournament available on PickM8. Once you've submitted your own picks, you'll get a joining link to send around.

Your members stay in the group for future tournaments. They decide whether to enter each time.
